Asia (Joanna) Czaj (Poland) started playing the violin at the age of seven. She studied at the Maastricht Conservatory with Prof. Robert Szreder where she received her Bachelor's degree in 2007 – cum laude – and her Master of Music in 2010 – again cum laude.
Since 1997, Asia has been participating in international violin competitions and masterclasses, here and abroad, bringing her into contact with great professors and violinists such as Herman Krebbers, Roman Totenberg, Eduard Grach, Yair Kless and many others.
Asia made her debut with the Czestochowa Symphony Orchestra when she was 15 when she performed Saint Saëns' Violin Concerto. Since then she has played in recitals and concerts with orchestras all over the world.
She is a laureate and prize winner of several international violin and chamber music competitions. In 2005 she recorded 2 CDs of Polish music with the Czestochowa Academic Symphonic Orchestra. In May 2006 she was nominated for the 6th Maastricht Music Award. April 2007 she was a finalist of the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours in Amsterdam. Since September 2008 she is part of the Huygens Scholarship Programme. In 2009 she was nominated for the Debut Competition of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Her musical interest extends beyond the classical world. Asia has participated in projects with Lionel Richie, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, Andrea Bocelli, The Jacksons, Zucchero, Seal, The Beach Boys, Oleta Adams, Marco Borsato, Candy Dulfer, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Doe Maar and many others.
